Cornwall Community Foundation Case Studies

Lifetime Legacies: Lord St Levan

Lord St Levan has always been incredibly supportive of the Cornwall Community Foundation. He originally set up a donor directed fund, in memory of his late wife Susan, which was to provide support to cancer research organisations. Over the years Lord St Levan has received much pleasure from utilising his fund to provide this much needed support. He was also confident that the expertise at the Cornwall Community Foundation was making the best use of his capital assets in the local community. Lord St Levan has since requested that the Cornwall Community Foundation distribute all of his capital assets, to a wider variety of voluntary organisations and causes (such as CRISIS and projects supporting the elderly) during his lifetime. Lord St Levan is an excellent example of how lifetime giving can bring real enjoyment and satisfaction, as opposed to waiting to leave your legacy via your will.

Philanthropy in Schools

The Cornwall Community Foundation have a number of excellent relationships with local colleges and schools who raise fund for the foundation. Cornwall Community Foundation receive a great deal of support from UCF Falmouth. The college are currently assisting the foundation with the creation of a short film, which will promote the work of the foundation, for no cost. The college also run a number of initiatives which encourage students to raise funds for charity. The Young Enterprise initiative asks students to create a product which can be sold. The proceeds of their small business are then donated to charity via the foundation. Cornwall Community Foundation have also recently applied to the Royal Cornwall Show to be their “Charity of the Year”, during the event UCF Falmouth students will help with fund-raising and bucket collections.
