Grassroots Grants: Cosy Feet
David Price owner of Street based company Cosy Feet, has been extremely impressed with the work of the Somerset Community Foundation and has been encourage to donate more to the foundation via the Grassroots challenge. David started his relationship with Somerset Community Foundation when he set up a named fund to direct money to mental health charities. The Somerset Community Foundation developed a programme to meet David's needs, as well as providing professional advice to the recipient of the funds on how to develop their organisation. David has been so impressed with the networks and support available from the Somerset Community Foundation, that he has directed further donations to the foundation and has taken real advantage of the match challenge. For every £1 donated to the foundation the government will match up to 50%. This really enables David fund to grow and help more organisations which meet his charitable aims.
Philanthropy in Schools: Millfield School
Somerset Community Foundation have developed an excellent working relationships with Millfield School in Street. The relationship has developed over 4 years and the school now operate a student committee which manages their funding raising and decides which local projects their funds will support. Meeting with the student committee, ensures that Somerset Community Foundation can present the local projects and update students on how their funds are being used. The students really benefit from the exposure to grassroots organisations rather than big national charities and get to visit local projects which benefit the community close to the school
