Grassroots Grants: Friends Provident

Friends Provident have donated an extra £20,000 towards Grassroots endowment building.

Quote from Ashley Taylor Senior Manager, Group Communications, Friends Provident:
" Friends Provident has a history of "putting something back" into the local community. The Grassroots Grants match funding has enabled us to achieve more with our investment than would otherwise be possible. We work with the Community Foundation for Wiltshire and Swindon because they focus our support where it can most make a difference. Grassroots Grants is a real incentive, helping us create a lasting impact to the benefit of everyone living and working in the Salisbury area."

High Sheriff Fund

Grassroots Grants pushed the total value of the High Sheriff Fund over the £100,000 hurdle.

Quote from Robert Floyd:
"As High Sheriff, my role is to thank volunteers who help the local community. Over the last few years, High Sheriffs have worked with the Wiltshire and Swindon Community Foundation to build up a Crime Beat fund that supports exciting, volunteer-led initiatives for local young people.

Grassroots Grants has been a huge help. With match funding this year, our Crime beat fund has grown to over £100,000.

Its amazing how much volunteering goes on. Its volunteers who hold society together, especially in changing times. Grassroots Grants has enabled us to build a worthwhile, sustainable fund that will support volunteers as catalysts for a better society."

Philanthropy in Schools

Swindon & Wiltshire Community Foundation currently hold a “Scholarship Fund”, which provides scholarships to individuals who would not otherwise be able to afford to attend further education. The Scholarship Fund is the largest in Wiltshire, distributing £90,000 in 2009 in West Wiltshire only. Swindon & Wiltshire Community Foundation plan to build this fund by running a competition between 3 local private schools to see who can raise the most funds. The local support for philanthropy in schools is encouraging, as not only does it allow schools to meet their public benefit test, but the students will be able to have first hand experience of philanthropy helping other students in their local community.
