The Manifesto for Philanthropy

Key Recommendations

The South West Community Foundations are working together to promote practical infrastructure and legislative changes and approaches that support enhanced local giving, sustainable communities and a culture of shared responsibility across our communities. The South West Community Foundations wish to be recognised as a net contributor to and major growth vehicle for local resources and the development of community philanthropy.

The Manifesto makes a number of key recommendations CFN believe that if implemented as part of a planned programme would over time, usher in the change of culture that is necessary for community philanthropy to reach new levels and become the society norm.

The South West Community Foundations wish to highlight 3 key recommendations of the Manifesto and on the following pages each local community foundation has identified a number of case studies which demonstrate how their work supports these recommendations. The 3 key recommendations are:

We will also comment on the recommendation to reform Gift Aid to make it easier for charities to claim while encouraging donors to give, and the creation of special giving zones – geographical or issue based, to encourage giving to target certain issues or deprived areas.
